Friends and Brethren:
I returned home from the ACA House of Bishops and
Executive Council meetings in Columbus, GA late
yesterday to this notice:Quote:
Dear Friends,
With great sorrow I write this note to tell you of the
death of my friend, Fr. Virgil Carrington (Pat) Jones,
Jr. He died suddenly yesterday morning of a heart
attack. This evening at 6 oclock I will offer a
Requiem for him, but we will bid him a formal and fond farewell together after Ive had a chance to make funeral plans with his sons. We will keep you all informed. While profoundly sorrowful I am also profoundly grateful to our merciful and generous Lord for the years of friendship and camaraderie I have enjoyed with Fr. Jones. Please join me in prayer for his family, who are as shocked and aggrieved as we at the death of this honest thespian; a California actor who was a Virginia gentleman; and a priest of Jesus Christ.
Fr. Gregory Wilcox
Saturday, March 1
Please remember Fr. Jones at your altars and in your
prayers. He was my seminary-mate and fellow Curate at
St. Mary of the Angels. We were Ordained to both the
Diaconate and Priesthood at the same time. He always
had that clerical "seniority" over me here in this
Vale of Tears - and he will continue to have it,
especially in Heaven. Even though Pat+ was ordained
only a few short minutes before me, in a spiritual
sense, he was light-years ahead of me in so many ways.
His ready smile, love for God and our parish can
never be fully replaced. He will be remembered fondly
as one of my best friends, and a great priest. Our
loss is Heaven's gain.
Requiem aeternam!
