We've all heard the rumors that Pope Benedict is going to approve a new indult giving all priests recourse to the 1962 Missale Romanum, or that he is going to set up a new Apostolic Administration or Prelature for the so-called Tridentines, etc.
It's time for an informal poll. Do you think the rehabilitation of the Pian Missal -- from its almost "renegade" status to a position more deserving -- is necessarily the best solution to the liturgical crisis that besets the Roman Catholic Church today?
This poll is not limited to RC members of the Forum. Our Anglican and Orthodox brethren know the issues well enough to have an opinion on the subject.
I am already on record as being against a so-called "Reform of the Reform" -- that is, a reform of the Novus Ordo Missae. Ideally, in time, I would see the NOM suppressed and consigned to a well-deserved oblivion.
In an ideal world, I would hope for a legitimate, modest reform of the 1962 liturgical books; and eventually, a return to regional Uses of the Roman Rite, instead of a single monolithic book.
This is just my personal opinion. Where do you stand?
