Unfortunately, I'm only familiar with two, but I would like to learn about more. I'd be especially interested in learning about any spanish language hymnals that are good and traditional. So, what's your favorite hymnal?

It is about halfway between the English Hymnal and Hymns Ancient and Modern Revised, but has some good modern hymns in it. I can tolerate the 1940 Hymnal, but it really is a bit of a camel. (And what's camel? A horse designed by a committee) PDR+

You are going to bankrupt me with your good suggestions! BTW, a camel it may be but, the American 1940 is standard for traditionalist in the USA. It is definitely tolerable, I think.

It is just a bit thin in places compared to some other hymnals that are out there. However, it is vastly superior to anything the RCs have published recently. Fr Peter

In my actual worship life I've only used Worship and the Catholic Hymn Book. Alas most times, it is just the missalette. Personally, in my collection, I have worship, Collegeville Hymn, Hymnal for the Hours, Adoremus, and several English hymnals. I tend to think that if they were all combined into one enormous tome, it would be a good start.

Posts: 131 Jul 9 05 2:38 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Hymns Ancient and Modern (with reservations) Lutheran Hymnal 1941 (great Communion Hymn section) 101 Bach Chorales (the right parish CAN sing these.) 1940, not my favorite due to difficult tunes. Rather eclectic taste of hymns here. Some gospel hymns I really enjoy. Cowper's "There is a Fountain filled with Blood" and Zinzenberg's "Jesus Thy Blood and Righteousness" among others. Then again, old Latin hymns are solid and meaty. Charles

Posts: 0 Jul 9 05 4:57 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Someone, (I'll try to find out who) reprinted the old St. Basil Hymnal, traditional Roman hymns, latin and english. I'll look around and see what I can dig up for traditional spanish hymnals. My favorite, (although not a hymnal per se, is the Liber Usualis)

Posts: 2 Sep 10 07 11:52 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I have been look all over, with no success, for a copy of the ORGANIST'S EDITION of "The New English Hymnal". This would be the standard choral/word arrangement in a spiral binder to make it easy to place on the music rack. If ANYONE knows where to find this, I would be grateful. Canterbury say it is no longer in print (why I have no reason when they still print the hymnal!). Assistance?

Posts: 2 Sep 11 07 7:17 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	That is it, but the copy you mention in your hyperlink is a hardbound edition. Organist's Editions are usually spirally bound (like a notebook), to keep the pages flat, and so we don't have to guess notes when the pages flip!!!
